Tom Hardy Crime Thriller Havoc Feels Like Netflix John Wick

Netflix announced Thursday that Tom Hardy’s action-packed crime thriller Havoc will premiere on the streaming platform April 25. The film marks director Gareth Evans’ latest venture into the crime genre.

In Havoc, Hardy portrays Walker, a detective fighting through a crime-riddled city after a drug deal collapses. The high-stakes thriller follows Walker as he battles a vengeful crime syndicate, corrupt politicians, and even his own colleagues while attempting to rescue a politician’s estranged son.

The film has already drawn comparisons to the John Wick franchise for its intense action sequences and stylized violence.

Joining Hardy in the cast are Jessie Mei Li, Timothy Olyphant (Justified), and Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland).

Hardy continues his pattern of portraying morally complex characters caught in dangerous underworlds — a specialty that has defined much of his career. His detective in Havoc navigates personal demons while confronting external threats, a character archetype Hardy has perfected across various projects.

The actor’s affinity for these roles spans from his portrayal of a fighter pilot in Dunkirk to Jewish gang leader Alfie Solomons in Peaky Blinders.

Hardy recently discussed his attraction to morally ambiguous characters during interviews for his Paramount+ series MobLand, where he plays a gangster’s fixer. He described these stories as offering “an irresistible mix of escapism and adventure-driven entertainment.”

In an interesting connection between projects, the Havoc trailer features Fontaines D.C.’s track “Starburster” — the same song that serves as the MobLand theme.
