Netflix announced Thursday the premiere of The Waterfront, a new Southern noir drama arriving June 19, with the release of the series’ first trailer.
The eight-episode original series follows the powerful Buckley family, whose influence stretches across the fictional coastal town of Havenport, North Carolina — from fishing docks to the local restaurant scene.
Veteran actor Holt McCallany (Mindhunter) stars as patriarch Harlan Buckley, who faces a power shift within his dynasty following a pair of heart attacks.
As Harlan recovers, son Cane (Jake Weary) and matriarch Belle (Maria Bello) seize control of family business affairs with ruthless determination. Meanwhile, estranged daughter Bree (Melissa Benoist, Supergirl) attempts to rebuild her life after addiction while fighting to regain custody of her son.
Bree’s redemption arc takes an unexpected turn when she becomes entangled in a dangerous relationship that threatens the entire Buckley legacy.
The series comes from creator Kevin Williamson, who serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner. Williamson’s previous credits include Scream and Dawson’s Creek.
Netflix describes the show as a slow-burn Southern noir inspired by true events, featuring dynastic power struggles and long-buried secrets.
The coastal drama draws comparisons to HBO’s Succession with elements of Outer Banks and Ozark — focusing on a wealthy, dysfunctional family maintaining appearances while dealing with internal conflict.
