Netflix announced that Sirens has reached the #1 spot on the platform in the United States, marking another successful debut for the limited series starring Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus).
The six-episode series explores wealth and manipulation within an elite social circle over a single Labor Day weekend. Fahy plays Devon, a woman from Buffalo who travels to a private island to extract her younger sister Simone (Milly Alcock, House of the Dragon) from what she believes is a cult-like environment.
Julianne Moore (Still Alice) stars as Michaela Kell, the enigmatic socialite at the center of Simone’s obsession. Moore’s character operates from her estate known as Cliff House, where surface-level civility masks deeper psychological games.
Creator and executive producer Molly Smith Metzler (Maid) developed the series as what she called “operatic” and “uncomfortable” in Netflix promotional materials. The show draws inspiration from Greek mythology, positioning Michaela and her circle as modern incarnations of the mythical sirens.
Kevin Bacon rounds out the ensemble cast in the production that examines class dynamics between the sisters’ blue-collar background and their current elite surroundings.
The series uses flashbacks to establish the contrast between Devon and Simone’s humble upbringing and their present circumstances among the wealthy. This tension drives the central narrative about identity and social transformation.
Sirens marks Fahy’s return to a beachside setting following her breakout role in The White Lotus. The Netflix series positions itself within the growing subgenre of dark comedies examining privilege and power among the ultra-wealthy.
The limited series is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
