Netflix announced that Black Rabbit, a new crime thriller starring Jason Bateman (Ozark) and Jude Law (The Talented Mr. Ripley), will premiere September 18 with eight episodes.
The series centers on brothers Vince (Bateman) and Jake Friedkin (Law), who built one of Manhattan’s premier restaurants together. Jake serves as the charismatic front man while Vince operates as the more reserved partner behind the scenes.
When Vince unexpectedly returns to help run the business, buried tensions resurface between the siblings.
The restaurant functions as more than a setting — it represents a battleground for identity, ambition and control within New York’s nightlife scene. Series creators Zach Baylin and Kate Susman explored the concept of restaurants as emotional crossroads for cities.
“A meeting place for all different kinds of people and a second home to others,” Baylin and Susman told Netflix.
Baylin, who received an Oscar nomination for his King Richard screenplay, serves as co-creator alongside Susman. Bateman directs the first two episodes of the series.
Laura Linney, who starred opposite Bateman in Ozark, returns to collaborate with him by directing episodes three and four of Black Rabbit.
“This is the story of two people who love each other but don’t mesh,” Bateman explained to Netflix’s Tudum. “Everybody’s either got a sibling, or a friendship where you love being with one another, but it’s kind of dangerous.”
The psychological thriller examines how the brothers’ relationship threatens both their personal bond and their restaurant empire. Their dynamic creates what the creators describe as a slow-burn tension that escalates throughout the eight-episode run.
Black Rabbit joins Netflix’s recent slate of prestige limited series that includes American Primeval, Zero Day, and Sirens.
