Netflix announced Thursday that America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will return for its second season on June 18.
The docuseries from director Greg Whiteley follows the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders through their rigorous tryout process and season preparations. Season 2 picks up with open tryouts as candidates from across the country compete for spots on the professional football team’s cheerleading squad.
Returning cheerleaders must re-audition alongside new hopefuls. Even established team members like Reece and Kelly V face the possibility of being cut from the roster.
"I have the ability to make a dream come true — or not," longtime DCC director Kelli Finglass states in the season premiere.
The new episodes feature Finglass and head choreographer Judy Trammell alongside returning squad members and fresh candidates. Whiteley’s camera continues exploring the personal lives of the cheerleaders beyond their game-day performances.
Behind the Uniform
The series examines the financial realities facing team members, many of whom work multiple jobs to supplement their cheerleading income. Season 2 revisits compensation discussions that generated significant attention during the show’s first run.
[Spoiler Alert] The upcoming episodes address serious personal challenges including mental health struggles, body image pressures, domestic violence, and negative social media attention affecting squad members.
Whiteley’s approach balances the spectacle of the cheerleaders’ performances with intimate portrayals of the women’s lives. The series reveals the contrast between the polished game-day appearances and the real-world pressures facing the performers.
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders organization maintains its reputation as one of the most demanding programs in professional sports entertainment. The selection process requires candidates to master complex choreography while maintaining strict appearance and conduct standards.
