5 New and Returning Netflix Shows to Watch This Week

Netflix announced its final content lineup for May, delivering five new series to the platform despite a traditionally slower release schedule during month-end periods.

The streaming giant’s late May slate includes the thirteenth season of preschool phenomenon CoComelon alongside four original series debuts spanning documentary, crime thriller, and international drama genres.

This release schedule comes amid recent news that CoComelon will depart Netflix for Disney+ in January 2027 — giving subscribers less than three years to access new content from the massively popular children’s franchise.

New and returning Netflix shows (May 25-31)

CoComelon: Season 13 arrives May 26, continuing the platform’s release strategy with another hour-long special episode. The animated preschool series recently made headlines after Deadline reported its upcoming migration to Disney+, ending its successful run on Netflix.

F1: The Academy debuts May 28 as a seven-part documentary series chronicling female drivers competing in the 2024 F1 Academy racing series. The show highlights young women developing their skills in the traditionally male-dominated motorsport as they pursue potential advancement opportunities.

Crime thriller Dept. Q premieres May 29, bringing Jussi Adler-Olsen’s bestselling book series to screen. Created by Scott Frank (The Queen’s Gambit), the British series stars Matthew Goode as Carl Morck, a former top-rated detective tasked with establishing a cold case division.

Losmen Bu Broto: The Series launches May 29, expanding the universe of the 2021 Indonesian drama film Losmen Bu Broto (Mrs. Broto’s Hostel). The series, based on the 1980s television show Losmen, follows the youngest Broto son as he develops feelings for a married guest at their Yogyakarta inn.

Thai drama Mad Unicorn rounds out the week’s releases on May 29. Inspired by Thailand’s first unicorn startup, the series follows Santi (Ice-Natara Nopparatayapon), an ambitious entrepreneur whose express delivery service faces betrayal from a ruthless business tycoon named Kanin.
